Greyhounds Allegedly Forced Into Violent Combat: Seek Justice

Target: Félix Bolaños García, Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations, Government of Spain

Goal: Pursue all lawful penalties if the evidence supports allegations that greyhounds were forced to fight for commercial entertainment and betting, causing severe physical injuries and suffering.

Authorities opened a major criminal investigation after law enforcement officers gathered evidence concerning an alleged organized animal fighting operation in rural Andalusia. Investigators identified multiple individuals believed to have organized events where greyhounds were incited to fight before spectators for commercial betting and entertainment.

The dogs sustained severe stress, traumatic lacerations, and other physical injuries. Authorities served formal legal notices on the identified property owners while additional proceedings remain underway. Police also requested the emergency seizure of the animals involved to ensure their protection during the investigation. No arrests have been finalized, no court has determined criminal liability, and no judicial penalties have been imposed.

If the evidence establishes that the suspects exploited animals through organized fighting for financial gain or public entertainment, meaningful accountability would be appropriate. Deliberately exposing animals to violent encounters for profit inflicts unnecessary suffering while undermining the purpose of Spain’s strengthened animal welfare protections. Thorough investigation and vigorous enforcement remain essential to deter similar conduct.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Bolaños,

Authorities gathered evidence suggesting that identified individuals may have staged organized greyhound fights before betting spectators and later initiated criminal proceedings against them. Officers reportedly documented that participating dogs suffered traumatic injuries after being incited to fight.

Please ensure that this investigation receives every available prosecutorial and enforcement resource and that, if the evidence ultimately supports the allegations, all lawful penalties are pursued. If investigators establish that these animals endured preventable suffering through organized fighting activities, appropriate accountability should follow under Spanish law.

Sincerely,
