Save the Susquehanna River From Poisonous Heavy Metals

Target: Richard Negrin, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection

Goal: Curb industrial pollution and protect the Susquehanna River.

The Susquehanna River, stretching over 400 miles through Pennsylvania and into Maryland, is not only a cherished natural wonder, but also a crucial source of freshwater for countless communities and ecosystems. However, the river’s health is gravely imperiled by the unchecked discharge of industrial pollutants.

Industrial activities along the Susquehanna’s banks have surged in recent years, leading to a troubling increase in pollution levels. Contaminants like heavy metals, chemicals, and toxins are pouring into the river, endangering aquatic life, degrading water quality, and jeopardizing the health of those who rely on this water source.

The current regulations are inadequate to address this escalating crisis effectively. Stricter oversight and enforcement are urgently needed to prevent further ecological degradation and protect the Susquehanna’s role as a vital lifeline for Pennsylvania and beyond.

Sign the petition below to demand immediate action from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to strengthen regulations and safeguard the Susquehanna River for the wellbeing of current and future generations.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Negrin,

The Susquehanna River, a cherished natural treasure, is under severe threat from industrial pollution. This vital waterway not only sustains Pennsylvania communities, but also impacts regions far beyond the state’s borders.

The unchecked discharge of pollutants into the Susquehanna jeopardizes aquatic ecosystems, endangers wildlife, and threatens the health and well-being of those who rely on this water source. The current regulations are failing to address the gravity of this crisis.

We implore you to take swift and decisive action. Strengthen regulations, increase oversight, and enforce stricter penalties for industrial polluters. It is your duty to protect the Susquehanna River, not only for the people of Pennsylvania, but also for all those downstream who depend on the integrity of this vital waterway.

The Susquehanna’s fate is intertwined with the well-being of countless communities and ecosystems. Failure to act now would be a grave disservice to both the state and the nation.

Sincerely,

  1. Someone is not doing their job. Isn’y it against the law to allow heavy metals in our water system. Mercury, lead … ouch!Swift action is necessary but will anything get done? It’s questionable. If we had severe laws that would force those in government allowing this to happen to go to prison then possibly this would get cleared up. Usually this goes on forever making people sick and some die but corporations go on. They should be closed down too. If guilty of leaking these metals into the water system there needs to be a trial and a jury. Dark money is making politics completely ineffective.
