Target: Sherry Boston, District Attorney, DeKalb Judicial Circuit, Decatur, Georgia
Goal: Prosecute the individual accused of throwing a vulnerable kitten from a moving vehicle.
According to witnesses, a tiny eight-week-old kitten was hurled from the window of a moving vehicle onto an active roadway. The frightened animal struck the pavement amid passing traffic, where its survival depended entirely on the quick actions of motorists and responding officers.
The Brookhaven Police Department launched an investigation after receiving multiple emergency calls from drivers who witnessed the incident. Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. Veterinary professionals found that the animal had apparently sustained shock and painful abrasions and transported it to an animal hospital for emergency treatment, pain management, and diagnostic imaging. Authorities are also reviewing traffic-camera and dashboard footage to determine whether additional kittens may have been discarded during the same trip. The accused has been arrested on a felony animal cruelty charge.
Casting a helpless animal into moving traffic would represent an act that could easily have ended in a bloody, terrifying death. Pets depend entirely on human compassion for their safety. A strong legal response would reinforce that exposing a companion animal to this kind of danger carries real consequences.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear District Attorney Boston,
Investigators allege that an eight-week-old kitten was thrown from a moving vehicle before being rescued from an active roadway with injuries requiring emergency veterinary care.
Your office now has an opportunity to pursue a thorough and impartial prosecution based on eyewitness testimony, police findings, veterinary records, and available video evidence.
Please ensure that the accused is prosecuted under the fullest provisions of Georgia law. A companion animal subjected to this kind of preventable danger deserves justice, and meaningful accountability will help deter similar acts.
Sincerely,
