Animals Allegedly Left to Starve and Die in Apartment Deserve Justice

Target: Trumbull County, Ohio Prosecutor Dennis Watkins

Goal: Give woman maximum prison sentence for reportedly abandoning and starving her pets.

Courtney Iser was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and three counts of abandonment after two dogs and one cat were allegedly discovered starving inside an apartment. She needs to serve time in prison and be banned from owning animals if she is found guilty to better ensure other animals will not suffer by her hands.

According to authorities, the animals were left inside the apartment without food or water, and it was reported that the dogs were extremely thin. Additionally, the dogs’ coats were said to be covered in urine and feces. When a dog is starved, the body eventually ingests the organs, and death is slow and painful. Sometimes dogs also die in these circumstances after being rescued because the starvation turns out to be too much for their bodies to handle, or because they later eat too much food too quickly.

There is never a good excuse for anyone to abandon their animals when there are shelters who will gladly take them if they need to be given up. Sign this petition and demand Iser be given the harshest punishment under law if it is found she is guilty of these unthinkable crimes.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecutor Watkins,

Courtney Iser was recently arrested for allegedly starving her cat and two dogs, then abandoning them. It is important she receive the strictest punishment allowed by law to send a message that such behavior will not be tolerated if it is found she is responsible for these reprehensible actions.

Police stated that the dogs were extremely emaciated and further claimed that their fur was filled with animal waste. Although these dogs were rescued, they may eventually die if the alleged starvation ends up being too much for their bodies to take. If a person is no longer able to take care of their animals, it is their responsibility to either find them a suitable home, or to drop them off at a reputable shelter, instead of allowing them to slowly perish in an unfit environment.

For these reasons, I demand you sentence Iser to 12 months per count and that you further require her to pay a $2,500 fine for each incident under Goddard’s Law if she is found guilty of these disgusting and inexcusable acts of animal cruelty to better ensure other animals will not have to endure the same fate.

Sincerely,
