A 9-week-old puppy was reportedly discovered crying from inside an outdoor recycling bin in Louisville. The dog, now named Singer, was rushed into emergency care, where veterinarians documented devastating trauma: both front legs were broken, her skull was fractured, and blood had pooled inside her eyes, according to reports. Initial examinations also indicated that she had been starved.
Danyell Rose, also known as Daquawn Buckner, has been indicted on felony torture of a dog with serious physical injury, tampering with physical evidence, and animal-cruelty charges. Prosecutors allege that Rose was responsible for Singer’s injuries and abandonment. He pleaded not guilty and has not been convicted.
Singer survived. Her medical treatment has been completed, and she is rebuilding strength in her damaged front legs. Her recovery, however, does not lessen the severity of the conduct alleged. Veterinary records, forensic findings, physical evidence, witness testimony, and investigative records should be presented fully so each charge can be resolved on its merits.
