Goal: Identify and prosecute the man captured throwing a dog over a six-foot animal shelter fence and abandoning the terrified animal in a closed compound.
Surveillance cameras captured a man lifting a medium-sized dog into the air and throwing the animal completely over a six-foot perimeter fence at a municipal animal shelter shortly before 2 a.m. The man immediately fled, leaving the dog alone inside the dark, closed compound.
Hours later, an animal control officer found the terrified dog hiding behind a bush on the shelter grounds. Staff patiently coaxed the animal from hiding and arranged a veterinary evaluation. Fortunately, the dog survived the fall and is now safe and receiving care. Police have released surveillance images in an effort to identify the person seen abandoning the animal.
No suspect has been identified. Investigators should pursue surveillance footage from surrounding streets and businesses, vehicle information, witness tips, ownership records, social media evidence, and any other leads that could identify the man. Once identified, pursue appropriate animal cruelty or abandonment charges supported by the evidence.

Find the man responsible for throwing and abandoning this dog. If the evidence establishes animal cruelty, abandonment, or related offenses, pursue appropriate charges and meaningful penalties. Surviving the fall should not mean this disturbing act goes unanswered.
