Target: Jimmy A. Richardson II, 15th Circuit Solicitor, South Carolina
Goal: Secure the maximum possible sentence against those charged with running a dogfighting operation in which 33 dogs were reportedly found chained, underweight, scarred, and without adequate housing.
Thirty-three dogs were allegedly discovered chained with logging chains, visibly underweight, isolated from one another, and bearing scarring consistent with dogfighting injuries at a Horry County property. According to investigators, a veterinarian evaluated multiple animals on scene and determined that several had been kept in conditions consistent with organized dogfighting. The dogs reportedly had untreated medical conditions and no adequate housing to protect them from the elements. Surveillance of the property began months before the raid, during which investigators allegedly uncovered extensive physical and digital records purportedly indicating that the dogs were owned for no purpose other than fighting or baiting, including breeding to perpetuate the dogfighting operation.
The property was operated as a private kennel, and according to arrest records, both charged individuals were aware of — and involved in — the conditions under which the 33 animals were kept. One individual faces 33 counts of ill treatment of animals and 16 counts of animal fighting or baiting; the other faces a charge of criminal conspiracy. The alleged scale and systematic nature of the operation — spanning months of surveillance, dozens of animals, and both physical and digital evidence — points to what investigators have described as an organized criminal enterprise.
Organized dogfighting is among the most brutal forms of animal cruelty. Dogs bred and conditioned for violence, kept in isolation on heavy chains, denied veterinary care, and forced to fight for human profit represent a sustained and deliberate infliction of suffering. The 15th Circuit Solicitor must pursue the maximum available penalties to deliver justice for 33 dogs who allegedly endured months of cruelty at the hands of those who exploited them.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Solicitor Richardson,
We are writing to urge your office to pursue the harshest possible penalties against those charged in connection with what investigators have described as an organized dogfighting operation in Horry County. According to authorities, 33 dogs were discovered chained with logging chains, underweight, isolated, and bearing scarring consistent with dogfighting injuries. A veterinarian confirmed on scene that the conditions were consistent with organized fighting operations.
The alleged scale of this operation is staggering. Months of surveillance generated substantial physical and digital evidence, and investigators have stated that the dogs were kept for no purpose other than fighting and breeding to perpetuate that activity. These animals were reportedly not only forced into violence, but denied basic food, shelter, and medical care throughout.
We call on your office to seek maximum sentences for all individuals convicted in this case, including permanent bans on animal ownership and the strongest criminal penalties available under South Carolina law. Thirty-three dogs allegedly suffered under these conditions. They deserve full justice.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
