Dog Allegedly Bred for Profit and Abandoned Shaking and Starving on a Freezing Night Deserves Justice

Target: Richard Nolan, Deputy State’s Attorney, Addison County, Vermont

Goal: Secure a conviction and meaningful sentence for the individual accused of abandoning a German shepherd on a frigid night after breeding the animal for profit.

A German shepherd was allegedly abandoned in freezing temperatures on a January night. She was reportedly left to fend for herself in the cold with no food or shelter after recently given birth.  According to investigators, a microchip linked the dog back to the accused, who had allegedly adopted the animal the previous summer. Police say the accused reportedly provided multiple conflicting explanations about the dog’s whereabouts when questioned, and witnesses told authorities that the dog had been bred and that the accused had planned to discard her after the puppies were sold.

The circumstances of this case paint a disturbing picture: an animal reportedly acquired, used for breeding, and then allegedly discarded on a frigid roadside once she was deemed no longer commercially useful. The accused has pleaded not guilty. The case is now before the courts, and the outcome will send a message about how Vermont treats those who allegedly exploit and abandon animals for financial gain.

Animals used for breeding are entitled to the same basic protections as any other companion animal. Allegedly abandoning a dog — who had just given birth — on a freezing night, for no reason other than that she was no longer profitable, is an apparent act of cruelty that demands a meaningful legal consequence. Sign below to demand the Deputy State’s Attorney of Addison County ensures this case is prosecuted vigorously and that any conviction reflects the gravity of what this dog allegedly endured.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Deputy Attorney Nolan,

We are writing to urge your office to pursue a full and vigorous prosecution of the individual charged in connection with the alleged abandonment of a German shepherd on a frigid January night. According to reports, the dog was found shaking, underweight, and having recently given birth — left alone in dangerous cold with no shelter and no means of survival.

What makes the circumstances of this case especially troubling is that the dog was reportedly not simply lost or escaped. Investigators say the accused offered multiple conflicting accounts of the dog’s whereabouts, and witnesses stated that the animal had been deliberately bred and was intended to be discarded after the puppies were sold. This was allegedly not an accident — it was reportedly an act of calculated abandonment following commercial exploitation.

We urge your office to pursue a conviction and a sentence that reflects the severity of what this dog allegedly endured, including a lifetime ban on animal ownership for the accused if she is found guilty. Vermont animals deserve the protection of laws that are enforced with real consequences.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
