Stop Poisoning Flint River With Industrial Toxins

Target: Phillip Roos, Director of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)

Goal: Advocate for comprehensive water purification and monitoring measures to rectify water quality in Flint River, Michigan.

Flint River, a critical waterway in Michigan, languishes under the weight of severe contamination. Pollutants such as lead, industrial effluents, and bacterial pathogens have converged to create a hazardous milieu. This isn’t a trivial matter; it’s a full-blown calamity that screams for immediate remedial action.

The waterway’s compromised state poses severe health risks to local communities, including but not limited to lead poisoning and waterborne diseases. Moreover, the river’s ecological balance is teetering on the brink, with aquatic life facing unprecedented threats.

Sign this petition to compel EGLE to take swift, decisive action to ameliorate water quality in Flint River. Instituting rigorous monitoring, enforcing strict pollution controls, and enhancing wastewater treatment protocols are non-negotiable steps for safeguarding this vital waterway.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Roos,

The urgency of rectifying Flint River’s water quality cannot be overstated. This critical waterway, a cornerstone of community well-being and ecological balance, is in a perilous state. The evidence is irrefutable: elevated levels of pollutants, dwindling fish stocks, and a surge in waterborne illnesses.

Immediate action is non-negotiable. This plan must include rigorous pollution controls, enhanced wastewater treatment, and proactive monitoring protocols.

Industries like fishing and tourism, which rely on a clean Flint River, are in a precarious state. The domino effect could spell disaster for local economies and community well-being.

Failure to act will only exacerbate the crisis, affecting not just the environment but also the economic vitality of the communities. Flint River is not merely a waterway; it’s an irreplaceable part of Michigan’s natural heritage.

We urge you to act with the urgency this crisis warrants. Implement measures that will not only improve water quality, but also ensure the long-term sustainability of Flint River within Michigan’s borders.

Sincerely,
