Success: Wells Fargo Announces Plans to Stop Funding Arctic Drilling

Target: Charles W. Scharf, President of Wells Fargo

Goal: Praise Wells Fargo for no longer financing fossil fuel projects in the Arctic.

Banking giant Wells Fargo has announced their plans to stop funding fossil fuel drilling in the Arctic. Until recently, the bank was one of the biggest backers of fossil fuel projects overall; they are now the third national bank to withdraw from this environmental destruction.

Oil pipelines and drilling have been on the rise for the past several years, with the Arctic being a favorite location for the latter. Arctic species such as polar bears and certain whales have lost their habitats, driven away by the destruction of the ice caps and snowy areas they need to thrive. Polar bears are even driven to cannibalism as their food supplies run low. Wells Fargo was one of many companies that supported and financed these dangerous endeavors, leading to protests nationwide. Petitions such as this one were circulated demanding the bank drop their support for such projects.

With a banking giant like Wells Fargo no longer supporting Arctic drilling, it is hoped that this will lead other investment giants to follow suit. Sign this petition to thank Wells Fargo for finally doing the right thing for the endangered Arctic.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Scharf,

Your decision to withdraw your support of oil and gas projects in the Arctic is highly commendable. For years, your company enabled the destruction and endangerment of the Arctic through drilling projects, which have destroyed wildlife populations and worsened pollution.

While the gas and oil industry is too big to shut down all at once, the loss of financial support can still cripple many of its projects. By no longer funding drilling in the Arctic, you are helping to protect what remains of the Arctic. It is hoped that more major banks and businesses will follow in your example. Thank you for finally doing the right thing.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
