Success: Immigrants Allowed to Re-Apply for Visas

Target: Jeff Sessions, Attorney General of the United States

Goal: Praise Department of Justice for allowing immigrants to re-apply for visas.

The first legal response to President Trump’s initial travel ban has been settled, with the Department of Justice notifying immigrants that they can now re-apply for visas. These immigrants had been blocked from entering the United States since January, despite the travel ban being blocked and rejected many times. The department will be naming three legal service providers to aid those looking to re-apply for their visas within the next 90 days.

This is a huge victory for those who were personally harmed by Trump’s xenophobic actions, as well as a victory for America; immigration is one of many factors that helped this country grow. Hundreds of immigrants are thrilled and relieved by this news, particularly the first to be detained at the airport months ago. The ban has been unconstitutional from day one, sparking petitions such as this one on ForceChange as well as many protests, and to see it officially reversed is a great relief.

The revised ban is still being challenged by the courts, but if this news is any indication, it will fail just as badly as the first did. Sign this petition to thank the Department of Justice for helping to reverse the travel ban once and for all.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Sessions,

Thank you for helping to put President Trump’s travel ban to rest by allowing immigrants to re-apply for their visas. These people have been blocked from entering the country since January, but the long wait will be over for them at last. It is a huge relief to know that the protests, petitions, and rejections by the courts have paid off so handsomely.

Immigration has been important to this country since its inception, and we came dangerously close to losing it due to the president’s selfishness and xenophobia. The hundreds of immigrants once again able to enter the country are thrilled and relieved, and the ACLU considers this an amazing victory. Thank you for doing the right thing and overturning the travel ban.

Sincerely,
