Flamingo Allegedly Choked and Thrown to Floor: Pursue Full Prosecution

Target: Steven B. Wolfson, District Attorney, Clark County, Nevada

Goal: Vigorously prosecute four animal-cruelty charges involving a flamingo allegedly abducted, choked, and thrown to the floor, and seek meaningful penalties if the charges are proven.

A flamingo named Peachy was allegedly removed from the wildlife habitat at the Flamingo Las Vegas resort and taken into a hotel room. Police say photographs and videos recovered during the investigation showed the bird being subjected to disturbing treatment, including being choked and thrown onto the floor while visibly distressed.

Mitchell Fairbarn faces four counts of animal cruelty. Authorities also allege that another flamingo was injured while Fairbarn chased and attempted to restrain birds inside the habitat, requiring treatment for a wing injury. Fairbarn pleaded not guilty. He has not been convicted.

This case warrants a thorough presentation of the surveillance footage, cellphone recordings, veterinary evidence, witness testimony, and other admissible evidence. The unusual setting should not diminish the seriousness of alleged cruelty toward captive wildlife. If the prosecution establishes that these birds were deliberately harmed, the consequences should reflect the suffering proven in court.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Wolfson,

Mitchell Fairbarn is standing trial on four animal-cruelty charges arising from an incident involving flamingos at a Las Vegas Strip wildlife habitat. Police allege that Peachy, one of the flamingos, was removed from the habitat and subjected to rough and violent treatment inside a hotel room.

Fairbarn has pleaded not guilty. Please ensure that prosecutors present all relevant surveillance recordings, cellphone footage, veterinary findings, and witness evidence so the allegations receive a complete and rigorous examination in court.

If the charges are proven beyond a reasonable doubt, pursue convictions and meaningful penalties for every established act of cruelty. Captive wildlife deserves the same serious legal protection from deliberate abuse as any other animal under Nevada law.

Sincerely,
