Target: William Scheiner, State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit, Florida
Goal: Prosecute any animal neglect charges supported by evidence after dogs were reportedly found in extreme squalor alongside a trapped child.
Deputies responded to a residence after a welfare concern and reportedly found a young child trapped inside a bathroom while several aggressive dogs roamed the living area. Officers described the home as being in extreme squalor, with animal waste and feces covering floors and living surfaces. A 41-year-old mother was taken into custody on initial charges involving child endangerment and animal neglect.
The dogs were allegedly left in unsanitary conditions for an extended period without proper supervision or hygiene. Animal control officers removed the animals for medical evaluation and behavioral assessment. Prosecutors are reviewing whether additional charges, including felony animal cruelty, may be appropriate depending on veterinary findings.
Animals trapped in filthy homes can suffer infections, stress, untreated injuries and long-term behavioral trauma. When neglect affects both vulnerable children and animals inside the same household, prosecutors must treat the case with urgency and care.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear State Attorney Scheiner,
Reports indicate that deputies found a child trapped in a bathroom while several aggressive dogs roamed a residence filled with feces and animal waste. The dogs were removed for veterinary and behavioral evaluation after being found in conditions that allegedly suggested extended neglect. If veterinary findings confirm that the dogs suffered physically or psychologically from these conditions, animal cruelty charges should be pursued with the seriousness they deserve.
We respectfully urge your office to review all evidence carefully and prosecute any animal neglect or cruelty charges supported by the investigation. Dogs forced to live in filth have no ability to clean their environment, seek safety or protect themselves from harm. Their suffering should not be treated as secondary simply because this case also involves alleged child endangerment.
Please ensure that accountability is pursued wherever the evidence supports it and that future animal ownership restrictions are considered if the law allows.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
