Five Men Allegedly Chase and Beat Puppy to Death With Sticks: Demand Justice

Target: Rajesh Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh

Goal: Ensure the maximum prosecution of five men allegedly caught on video beating a terrified puppy to death with sticks and then removing its body to destroy evidence.

A deeply shocking case has emerged after video evidence reportedly captured five men chasing a terrified puppy into a graveyard and beating it to death with wooden sticks. According to reports, the puppy — a companion dog belonging to a local family — had accidentally wandered into the area when the men began pursuing it. The footage reportedly shows the men striking the small animal repeatedly while it yelped in pain and desperately attempted to hide under a charpai for shelter. The attackers allegedly removed the charpai and continued beating the defenseless puppy until it died — and then removed the body from the scene in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.

According to reports, an FIR has been registered against the accused under Section 325 and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Section 325 makes killing or maiming an animal a cognisable offence punishable by up to five years imprisonment, while Section 3(5) applies when an offence is committed by multiple persons acting together with a common intention — a provision directly applicable to this case given that all five men allegedly participated in the attack. The alleged removal of the puppy’s body after the killing further suggests a deliberate and calculated attempt to evade accountability.

Research consistently shows that individuals who commit acts of cruelty to animals are three times more likely to go on to commit other violent crimes, including assault, robbery, and murder. The alleged act captured in this video — five grown men chasing and beating a small, helpless puppy to death with sticks while it cried out in pain — is not only a profound violation of animal welfare law but a serious indicator of dangerous antisocial behavior. The Superintendent of Police must ensure that all five accused are prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law and that mandatory psychiatric evaluation and counseling are ordered as part of any sentencing outcome.

PETITION LETTER:

SP Dwivedi,

We are writing in response to a deeply disturbing incident in which five men were allegedly captured on video chasing a puppy into a graveyard and beating it to death with wooden sticks. According to reports, the puppy attempted to seek shelter under a charpai while crying out in pain — only for the men to remove it and continue the attack until the animal died. The accused reportedly then removed the body from the scene in what appears to have been an attempt to destroy evidence. We commend the prompt registration of the FIR following your direction to Sadar Bazar Police Station.

We are deeply concerned that without vigorous prosecution, the gravity of this alleged act will not be reflected in the outcome. The charges filed — including Section 3(5) of the BNS for joint criminal liability and Section 325 for killing an animal — carry significant penalties, but only if pursued with full force. Research has established that individuals who commit acts of cruelty to animals are three times more likely to commit other serious crimes. This case must be treated accordingly — as both an animal welfare matter and a public safety concern.

We respectfully demand that your office ensure the maximum available prosecution of all five accused, including the full five-year imprisonment provision under Section 325 of the BNS, and that mandatory psychiatric evaluation and counseling be ordered for each of them. This puppy allegedly cried out for help while being beaten to death — and then its body was allegedly removed to prevent justice. We ask that your office ensure justice is delivered in full.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
