A deeply distressing case has emerged after a young mare was apparently rescued in a collapsed and critically emaciated condition following reports from local students to animal welfare authorities. According to veterinary assessments, the mare showed visible ribs, open wounds, severe pain, and an inability to stand, indicating prolonged suffering and neglect.
Veterinarians recorded the mare’s body condition score as 1, which may reflect extreme starvation and the prolonged absence of food, water, medical treatment, and basic care. Despite being only three years old, she reportedly suffered from chronic arthritis, a deep-seated hoof injury, infected wounds, and significant mobility impairment that rendered her permanently unfit for work.
A report was registered against an unknown owner following the rescue. Despite receiving intensive veterinary treatment, nutritious food, and hospice care, the mare ultimately succumbed to the effects of suspected neglect.
