Stop Providing Weapons for War Crimes

Target: Anthony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State

Goal: Make ally answer for accusations that it is helping instigate crimes against humanity.

The civil war currently raging in Sudan has claimed tens of thousands of lives and left many more displaced. Fighters have even taken to social media to proudly display video footage of torture and other atrocities. Leaders are now accusing another nation, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), of fueling this raging inferno by providing one side of the conflict with a steady supply of devastating weapons.

The United States is a key ally of the UAE and therefore exerts some influence over its diplomatic partner. This influence should be used to encourage an ally to ease tensions, and not inflame them, in a historically war-torn region. But the UAE is apparently driven by its desire to exploit Sudanese minerals, while the U.S. may be discouraged from confronting the UAE because of the latter’s large supply of oil.

Humanitarian concerns should supplant these self-serving interests. Sign the petition below to call on U.S. leaders to put lives and stability before personal gain.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Blinken,

The United States has never been shy about imposing sanctions, making demands, or enforcing its foreign relations’ rules where its adversaries are concerned. But when an ally is involved, the narrative is often quite different. The current accusations that the United Arab Emirates is providing deadly weaponry that worsens the tragedies of Sudan’s civil war is a case in point. Many of the atrocities from this conflict have been laid bare on social media for the world to witness.

While the UAE has denied these allegations, they need to be treated with seriousness. Please evaluate this urgent matter and, if the UAE has compounded an ongoing humanitarian crisis that has already claimed over 20,000 lives, take the necessary steps (whether they be sanctions or other peaceful measures) to ensure that the United States is not aiding and abetting crimes against humanity.

Sincerely,

  1. America needs to be out of the business of providing weapons of war to other countries. This comes back to haunt us. The only persons making money off of such sorrow are the politicians and those who manufacture weapons. Their contribution to peace? ZERO!
Ukraine is the only country in need of help. Russia has been horrible and Ukraine still has high standards. There are two countries I can name off the top of my head who need to face world justice for war crimes and Sudan makes 3! Will humans ever learn to live in peace? Death is not he answer and killing is a crime worldwide. Will it ever end?
