Two young kittens were discovered trapped inside a sealed cardboard box discarded beside a remote road. The container had no ventilation holes. There was no food or drinking water inside. A passing motorist discovered the kittens and helped get them to emergency veterinary care, where both required urgent rehydration and temperature stabilization.
Rescuers named the kittens Scooter and Vespa. Despite intensive treatment, Vespa’s condition deteriorated, and she later died from advanced organ failure. Scooter survived. Neither kitten had identification that could immediately trace them to a previous home, leaving investigators with the difficult task of determining where they came from and who placed them inside the box.
No suspect has been identified. Authorities should pursue available dashcam footage, nearby surveillance recordings, witness information, and other evidence that could reveal who brought the box to the roadside. Vespa died after being discovered in a container from which she could not escape. Find whoever abandoned these kittens and pursue appropriate penalties if criminal cruelty or abandonment is established.
