Goal: Capture the person(s) responsible for slaughtering wild horses in the desert.
Out in the desert near Moab, Utah, people have been finding dozens of dead wild horses with bullet holes in their sculls. According to two brothers who have been finding many of the horses, a typical day is like – “We find two down here. Three right here, four up there. Five, six, seven, eight, nine…”
“Oh my goodness that’s a lot of horses,” his brother exclaims. “Someone went to town.”
Who that “someone” is, authorities do not know. What they do know, however, is that someone is prowling the desert, hunting wild horses with a gun.
Some people have speculated that the killer is a local cattle rancher. Historically, many cattle ranchers have run into conflicts with wild horses, since the horses graze the same grasses that cows eat. This has lead to many ranchers advocating for the extermination of wild horse herds.

Dear Sheriff Wiggins,
In the desert of Grand County, Utah, dozens of wild horses have been turning up dead with bullet holes in their skulls. According to two brothers who have been finding many of the horses, there are dozens of these poor animals lying out in the desert.
There is no indication that your office has identified a suspect, nor have you released details on the status of the investigation. We sincerely hope that you are working hard to build a case.
Some people have speculated that the killer is a local cattle rancher. Historically, many cattle ranchers have run into conflicts with wild horses, since the horses graze the same grasses that cows eat. This has lead to many ranchers advocating for the extermination of wild horse herds.
Whoever the killer is, please dedicate sufficient resources to find and arrest the person or persons responsible for these heinous killings.

If someone wants to raise cattle, they need to do it on their own
property. Public land is not theirs and the piddling amount they
pay the federal gvt. because they are too cheap to feed that which is making them wealthy.
Those horses have more right to that forage than stupid cows.
Think of any other job holder who decides to take over the supplies of a fellow worker. Or the rancher who decides to let his cattle into a neighbor farmer’s wheat field, the mayor’s palatial flower garden. I am sure you get my point but not the

Start writing to your Senators, Representatives and demand all
cattle off of public lands.

I’ve been an advocate for wild horses and burros for many years. Ranchers have always been given preferential treatment and our government continues to allow the never ending roundups. If they really want to find the horse killers they would offer a reward, a big reward but I’m sure that won’t happen. There will come a day when there will be no horses or burros roaming the wilderness, only livestock.

It’s a tragedy that this Petition will not make a bit of difference because, as another commenter pointed out, “Ranchers have always been given preferential treatment and our government continues to allow the never-ending roundups.” In fifty years, there will be no more wildlife roaming this planet because the powers that be (past and present) do not care about preserving the Animal Kingdom. The almighty dollar will always prevail…

The lack of government on this one really pisses me off the most. Some of the lineage on these wild horses has been on these grounds longer than these human beings have been in their entirety. With that said, I think the horses should get special treatment, and the poachers and shooters can be hung by the next tree for an example to leave the horses alone.
