Aid Survivors of Devastating Earthquake

Target: Michael Jensen, United Nations Chief of CERF, Secretariat

Goal: Ensure Haitian earthquake aid gets to suffering communities.

Just as Haiti’s political stability was shattered, the battered nation’s citizens suffered instability of a catastrophically different variety. A 7.2-magnitude earthquake shook the country to its very foundation once again. In the aftermath, families were left without homes and communities without essentials like food and medical aid. The death toll has soared to over 2,000 people.

Despite an estimated half a million individuals being in dire need of humanitarian aid, relief is painfully slow. A tropical storm contributed to the delayed aid. Gangs controlling affected regions have also hindered progress. Basic infrastructure such as schools and hospitals have literally collapsed, and medical facilities still left standing are overwhelmed. In addition, allegations that previous funds raised during a 2010 earthquake may have been misused are creating some hesitancy in donations.

Sign the petition below to help ensure the countless communities in crisis are not let down yet again.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Jensen,

Rapid response and underfunded emergencies: these subjects are the focuses of CERF, and they also happen to define the urgency faced in the wake of the most recent Haiti earthquake. You recently allocated eight million dollars to assist with this massive humanitarian undertaking. The people of Haiti have seemingly been burned by offers for help before, however.

Please ensure they receive the aid they so desperately need this time. Oversee every expenditure and fund and send as much of this aid as possible directly into the hands of trustworthy Haitian organizations. The people on the ground have a vested interest in rebuilding their shattered communities and helping their neighbors.

Set a standard that can reassure and instill hope in this country through its darkest days.

Sincerely,
