Success: Urban Communities Benefit From Multi-Acre Park

Target: Amy Meadows, President of Parks for Downtown Dallas

Goal: Support more park development in major cities.

Green spaces have long been championed as major boosters for physical health, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life. This ForceChange petition highlighted the importance of environmental havens for urban residents. Now, one major American city has solidified its commitment to “going green” with the grand opening of a multi-acre public park.

Some years ago, several businesses battled for a series of parking lots in downtown Dallas. Instead of the 60-story building once planned for the massive open space, downtown residents can instead enjoy a multi-acre park brimming with a large lawn and over 160 trees. Twenty-three of these trees were preserved as part of a historic decades-old oak tree cluster. The park even boasts a perk for dog lovers: a state-of-the-art irrigation system that washes away lingering waste.

The organization largely responsible for this project is not done yet. They have plans for at least three more parks in and around the Dallas area. This cause illustrates that investments can be used for the good of the environment and communities.

Sign the petition below to thank the people responsible for providing a green oasis in at least one concrete jungle.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Meadows,

Congratulations on the successful launch of Pacific Plaza. This labor of love symbolizes the important gains that public and private partnerships can accomplish for the greater good. The people of Dallas will be healthier and happier for this investment.

Hopefully your model can become an inspiration and template for other urban centers. The additional planned parks for Dallas will certainly benefit the communities and serve as a crucial reminder that we all must work diligently to preserve our natural heritage. You have and will continue to have strong support for your proactive efforts.

Thank you, and please keep up the good work.

Sincerely,
