Cats Allegedly Found Dead After Weeks of Abandonment: Pursue Severe Penalties

Target: Russ Goodman, District Attorney, Houston County, Alabama

Goal: Pursue severe penalties if prosecutors prove that animals were criminally abandoned inside a grooming business where several cats died and others remained confined.

A foul odor coming from an animal grooming business reportedly led authorities to a horrifying discovery. Animal Services officers say they found several cats dead inside the facility while other animals remained alive in enclosures. Police said the animals appeared to have been left unattended for approximately a month. Investigators also determined that the building had seemingly been without active utilities since June.

Authorities identified the business owner as Brandi Leann Tyrrell. Nearby businesses reportedly told investigators that Tyrrell had not been seen there for at least three weeks before officers entered the facility. Tyrrell was arrested and faces two felony counts of first-degree cruelty to a cat and six additional animal cruelty counts.

The alleged deaths of several cats make a complete accounting essential. Investigators should determine how long each animal may have been left without care and whether additional animals were affected. If prosecutors prove criminal cruelty, they should seek penalties reflecting the deaths, number of animals involved, and severity of the suffering established by the evidence.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Goodman,

Several cats were reportedly found dead inside a grooming business after complaints about a powerful odor prompted authorities to investigate. Other animals were apparently discovered alive in enclosures. Police said the animals appeared to have been unattended for roughly a month, while investigators determined that the building had lacked active utilities since June. Brandi Leann Tyrrell faces two felony first-degree cruelty-to-a-cat charges and six animal cruelty charges.

Please prosecute every charge the evidence supports. If Tyrrell is convicted of criminally abandoning or mistreating these animals, seek serious penalties proportionate to the conduct established in court. Several cats apparently never emerged alive from this facility. Their alleged deaths deserve meaningful accountability if criminal wrongdoing is proven.

Sincerely,
