Success: Propane School Buses Reduce Air Pollution

Target: Michelle Embrey, Transportation Director for Neosho, Missouri

Goal: Praise a school district that is using propane buses to reduce air pollution.

A Missouri school district is reporting tremendous success in its implementation of propane school buses. This alternative fuel source burns cleaner and keeps the local children healthier. Praise this district’s efforts to reduce air pollution.

Air pollution, caused by burning gasoline and diesel, is a serious threat to public health and the environment as a whole. Over 6 million people die on an annual basis due to asthma, cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses proven to be caused or worsened by dirty air. Petitions like this one have circulated, demanding a solution to this mounting problem.

In an effort to combat air pollution, the city of Neosho implemented its first fleet of 18 propane school buses five years ago. They are now reporting a significant reduction in air and noise pollution, as well as a decrease in fuel costs. Alternative energy tax credits have also benefited this city, as well as many others that have taken this leap into healthier living.

Unlike diesel, propane is a clean burning fuel. Its use is becoming more common across the United States and these positive results will only perpetuate its implementation and further its impact. Sign below to encourage the Neosho school district in its fight against air pollution.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Embrey,

Five years ago, you launched a fleet of 18 propane school buses in an effort to curb the amount of diesel fumes in your city. Now, the results are in and they are extremely positive. Noise and air pollution have been significantly reduced and propane has proven to be cost effective in comparison to diesel. Children are healthier and the environment as a whole has benefitted. Your recent announcement that you will be adding even more propane school buses to your district is encouraging to both environmental activists and other cities considering making the switch to alternative fuel sources.

I want to thank you for prioritizing public health and being a role model in this worldwide fight against air pollution.

Sincerely,
