Invest in Americans Instead of Aggression

Target: Jodey Arrington, Chair of U.S. House Committee on the Budget

Goal: Do not approve presidential budget proposal that drastically reduces domestic investment while funding foreign conflicts.

During the Department of Government Efficiency’s widespread purge, over a quarter of a million American workers lost their jobs. Agencies critical to Americans were slashed, and in some cases entire domestic programs were gutted. During depositions, DOGE employees reportedly expressed zero regret about the damage caused, even though the stated goal of reducing the federal deficit was not met. In fact, the deficit has swelled by trillions of dollars. The Iran war is not helping, as it is costing America over one billion dollars a day. And if America’s highest-ranking leaders have their way, that number will rise much higher…and average Americans will quite literally pay the price.

“We can’t take care of daycare.” This audacious statement about childcare from the president — in which he also washed his hands of healthcare investments — symbolizes his even more audacious budget proposal. The newest budget proposed by President Trump asks for a one-and-a-half trillion-dollar uptick in supposed “defense” spending. Much of this money will fund ongoing and new military campaigns and continued deportation raids. A small percentage will be used to “beautify” national parks – but only in Washington, DC. And with the increase in “defense” spending will come more drastic cuts in programs beneficial to Americans. During a prior budget proposal, for example, the “America First” president wanted a decrease in domestic spending. He proposed to achieve this goal by eliminating a plethora of domestic aid programs, such as grants that helped families achieve affordable housing, updated sewer systems, and lower energy costs. Congress actually vetoed many of these requests, and they must do so again, as his latest demands will mean drastic cuts to medical research and to education, to name a few domestic objectives.

Sign the petition below to demand elected leaders bust a budget proposal that, if enacted, will bust the budgets of America and the people.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Representative Arrington,

President Trump’s most recent budget proposal is a direct slap in the face to the American people. A sizeable percentage of Americans did not vote for endless wars, military flexes, and community raids. They did, however, vote for affordability, stability, and for the domestic assistance they were promised during many an election campaign. So much has been lost as politicians claim money is scarce and reductions are necessary, yet the very same politicians seem to always find these missing funds for vanity projects or for ego-centric displays of military might.

You must honor your word to these constituents. Do not approve a budget that prioritizes adding over a trillion dollars to a multi-trillion-dollar deficit to fund unwarranted aggression abroad…at the expense of the long-standing aid that helps Americans during their darkest struggles. Compromise on a reasonable budget that supports and works for all Americans.

Sincerely,
