Justice for Lola: Video Shows Dachshund Reportedly Beaten

Target: Maureen T. Platt, State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Waterbury, Connecticut

Goal: Seek strong prosecution, a ban on animal ownership, and court-ordered counseling for the individual reportedly seen striking a dachshund named Lola on video.

A small dachshund named Lola was reportedly filmed being struck by a man, according to local reports and a circulating video. Lola was later found and placed on safekeeping status while an active investigation proceeds, and she is receiving treatment for minor injuries. The footage and the subsequent veterinary care reportedly reveal a vulnerable animal enduring needless fear and pain.

Officials have publicly stated they are searching for the man seen in the video. Lola is safe at a municipal facility, warm and cared for, while the case advances. Even when injuries are described as minor, the trauma to a small companion animal can be significant, and such conduct—if proven—allegedly places both animals and the community at risk.

Accountability in cases like this is critical. When a dog is reportedly struck hard enough to prompt an abuse investigation, decisive legal action helps deter future harm. This petition urges a thorough prosecution, a prohibition on animal ownership upon conviction, and mandatory counseling—measures that reduce repeat offenses and better protect animals like Lola.

PETITION LETTER:

State’s Attorney Platt,

A disturbing video reportedly shows a man striking a dachshund named Lola. The dog was later located, placed on safekeeping status during the investigation, and treated for minor injuries. The video and subsequent reports apparently depict conduct that demands a strong, measured legal response.

When an animal is reportedly hit and left fearful and hurt, the law should be applied with diligence. We respectfully request your office pursue the maximum appropriate charges supported by the evidence, seek a prohibition on animal ownership upon conviction, and ask the court to order counseling and evaluation that could address underlying issues and reduce recidivism.

Justice for Lola—and prevention for future victims—requires both accountability and rehabilitation. Please ensure this case, if proven, results in meaningful consequences that protect animals and the public.

Sincerely,
