Justice for Elephants Subjected to Alleged Abuse in Performances

Target: Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment Protection, China

Goal: Halt alleged abusive elephant training and performances in Yunnan.

Elephants, majestic and intelligent, find themselves at the center of a distressing controversy. The Wild Elephant Valley in Yunnan allegedly subjects these gentle giants to abusive training for performances. A Beijing-based environmental group, asserting these practices as animal abuse, sought legal intervention. Sadly, the court in Yunnan Province dismissed these concerns. The verdict stated that the company’s activities, including elephant performance training, didn’t constitute animal abuse or environmental harm. This decision raises alarms about the welfare of these elephants and the legal framework protecting wildlife in China.

Detailed allegations paint a troubling picture. The environmental organization claimed that the methods employed in training these elephants amounted to mistreatment. They argued for an immediate cessation of performance training and other activities they considered abusive towards the elephants. The court’s decision, however, was based on the current legal standards. It stated that the company held the necessary licenses and conducted training in a manner supposedly suitable for the elephants’ physiological needs. Despite this, questions linger about the ethical implications of using these sentient beings for entertainment and the potential long-term impact on their well-being.

This petition demands a reevaluation of these practices and the laws governing them. Elephants should not be subjected to training and performances that could potentially harm them, physically or psychologically. We call on the Minister of Environmental Protection to intervene. Immediate action is necessary to ensure the humane treatment of these noble creatures and to bring the alleged abusive practices to an end.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Huang Runqiu,

We bring to your attention a matter of grave concern regarding the treatment of elephants in Yunnan’s Wild Elephant Valley. It’s alleged that these intelligent creatures are subjected to abusive training methods for the purpose of entertainment. A recent court ruling in Yunnan Province found no legal violation in these activities. However, we urge you to consider the ethical and moral implications beyond the current legal framework.

The methods used in training these elephants have been a point of contention, with claims of abuse and mistreatment. The involved environmental organization sought an order to cease these training and performance activities, highlighting the potential harm to these sentient beings. While the court recognized the company’s right to train and perform with these animals, it is essential to scrutinize the methods and their impact on the elephants’ welfare. Reasonable training should not come at the expense of an animal’s well-being.

We appeal to you to take a stand for these majestic creatures. We ask for an immediate halt to the alleged abusive training and performance practices in the Wild Elephant Valley. Implement stricter guidelines and oversight to ensure the ethical treatment of wildlife. It’s not just about adhering to laws, but about advancing our moral responsibility towards these creatures. We believe your intervention can lead to a more compassionate and humane approach to wildlife management and protection.

Sincerely,

  1. These are the same baby elephants Zimbabwe sold to China after they stole them from the wild and from their mothers and herds. At the time I accused the president of Zimbabwe of cruelty and abuse and his response was the elephants belong to us and we can do what we want with them. Several have died since being sent to China but yet China seems to only care about their panda’s.

The president of Zimbabwe is a bastard. How do people like him gain power? Horrendous.

  3. Alice Knight says:

This is a horrible practice. How can anyone person think this is not associated with animal abuse? The legal measures need to be changed immediately. How would you enjoy the practice of being abused every day? This behavior of training animals is archaic. Has no one learned from practices from the past? Shame on your government I am truly appalled.
