Two Dogs Allegedly Starved to the Bone: Demand Real Justice

Target: Suzy Lopez, State Attorney, Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, Florida

Goal: Ensure that the individual allegedly responsible for starving two dogs and denying them necessary medical care is prosecuted to the fullest extent of Florida law.

There comes a point when hunger becomes visible. According to investigators, that point had long since passed for two dogs found inside an apartment after deputies responded to a service call. Their ribs, hips, and spines were allegedly so prominent that the effects of prolonged starvation could be seen at a glance. Veterinary examinations later suggested that the animals were not only severely emaciated but were also suffering from multiple untreated medical conditions.

According to publicly reported information, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office launched a criminal investigation after deputies entered the residence and encountered the two dogs in alarming physical condition. Animal services personnel immediately removed the animals and transported them to a county resource center, where veterinary professionals confirmed severe malnutrition along with several untreated illnesses associated with prolonged neglect. Following the investigation, authorities arrested a 38-year-old woman on two counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

Sheriff Chad Chronister publicly emphasized that companion animals rely completely on their caregivers for food, shelter, and medical attention. The suspect has been booked into custody, and the criminal proceedings remain ongoing. No court has determined criminal liability.

Allowing companion animals to deteriorate to such a fragile condition represents an alleged abandonment of the basic duty every caregiver owes to an animal. Dependence should never become a pathway to suffering. A meaningful legal outcome would help reinforce that prolonged starvation and neglect will not be tolerated.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Attorney Lopez,

The condition of two dogs found in a local home has deeply shocked animal welfare advocates. Investigators allege that the animals were left to become dangerously emaciated while suffering from untreated medical conditions before authorities intervened.

Your office now has the opportunity to pursue this matter against the arrested suspect through a complete and impartial legal process. Veterinary findings, investigative reports, and witness testimony should be fully evaluated as this prosecution moves forward. These allegations remain subject to judicial determination.

Please ensure that, if the evidence ultimately supports the allegations, the individual responsible is prosecuted under the fullest provisions of Florida law. Animals subjected to prolonged starvation and preventable illness deserve justice, and strong accountability is essential to deter similar cruelty in the future.

Sincerely,
