A woman contacted police to report that she had been assaulted and that a puppy in the residence had been injured during the incident. According to police statements, the suspect fled the apartment with the injured puppy. Investigators later discovered evidence suggesting the puppy may have been left in a wooded area near the residence.
Officers conducted a search of the surrounding area and later heard what they believed to be the puppy yelping beneath tree debris. A police K-9 located the injured animal during the search. The puppy was transferred to a local animal rescue organization for medical care, where an early veterinary examination indicated the animal may have suffered repeated abuse resulting in a broken jaw and a broken leg.
