Congress: Stop Presidential Retaliation Against Americans With Different Political Views

Target: Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House

Goal: Use Congressional check and balance powers to stop political attacks against states and their citizens.

American consumers are being punished for their political preferences, placing the livelihoods and even the safety of millions of individuals in harm’s way. In the wake of the latest government shutdown, President Donald Trump is using the chaos to fire more federal workers and to strip already-approved funding from states that did not vote for him. He has promised more retribution against “Democrat Agencies,” “Democrat things,” and “Democrat states” – and the many, many Americans (including his own supporters) who call these regions home.

Over 26 billion dollars in funding for projects in 16 states have been cancelled. All of these states coincidentally went for Trump’s presidential opponent in prior elections. Among the cuts are millions of dollars for green energy infrastructure, a program in Massachusetts that would have helped military veterans prepare for college, multiple transit projects, and the cancellation of a New York tunnel project that was supposed to help bolster defenses against terrorism. In related news, the president has also threatened to strip funding from public schools that fail to fall in line with his so-called “Trump Doctrine” of education tilted toward an extreme conservative perspective.

This political payback off the backs of the American people must end. Sign the petition below to demand the House of the People stand up for the people.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Speaker Johnson,

Finger-pointing may keep you in office for now, but it will do nothing to help your constituents or the millions of Americans across the country caught in a political crossfire. The administration’s “solution” seems to consist of using the shutdown crisis to enact retribution in the form of job cuts and cancellation of funding that this Congress approved — if the funding happens to involve a so-called “blue state.” Out with the bathwater will go transit upgrades, modernized infrastructure, educational advancements, and defenses against terrorism. Are the short-term political points worth the suffering and hardship of Americans who are already burdened by a faltering economy?

It is long past time the balance of power between these supposedly co-equal branches of government is restored. Say ‘no more’ to the political grenades being thrown by the executive branch and the collateral damage being inflicted on people of every political stripe. And work toward a solution that includes and benefits all Americans.

Sincerely,
