Pets Shot, Dismembered and Dumped in Trash Bags: Call for Action

Target: Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles County District Attorney, California

Goal: Intensify investigation and prosecution after pets were shot, dismembered and abandoned in trash bags.

Animal advocates have raised alarm after disturbing discoveries involving companion animals mutilated and abandoned in residential areas. Volunteers working with a rescue organization described scenes in which animal remains were discovered inside garbage bags along neighborhood streets.  Some findings included dog limbs left discarded in bags, showing severe cruelty toward animals in the area.

Volunteers caring for stray animals in the community described repeated incidents of suspected abuse. According to reports from rescue workers, a cat was shot with a BB gun, and advocates have observed signs suggesting animals may be targeted with pellet guns. These discoveries have fueled concern among local rescuers that companion animals in the area may be facing escalating danger.

Advocates have called for stronger enforcement of existing animal protection laws. When animals are shot, mutilated, or abandoned in trash bags, urgent investigative and prosecutorial action becomes necessary. Decisive enforcement and prosecution are essential to protect vulnerable animals and to deter any further cruelty. Sign below to demand justice.

PETITION LETTER:

DA Nathan Hochman,

We write to express grave concern regarding reports that companion animals were shot, mutilated and abandoned in trash bags in residential neighborhoods. Volunteers working to care for stray animals discovered disturbing remains, including dog limbs found inside garbage bags.

Animal advocates have also rescued a cat that was shot with a BB gun, and volunteers have expressed concerns that pellet guns may be used to target animals in the area.

We respectfully urge your office to intensify investigations and pursue full prosecution to the fullest extent permitted by law. Strong enforcement is essential to ensure that animals are protected and that those responsible for such acts are held accountable.

Sincerely,
