Emaciated Pigs Reportedly Drank Each Other’s Urine: Demand Maximum Penalties

Target: Colin L. Seaman, Orange County, Vermont State’s Attorney

Goal: Seek every supported charge, maximum sentencing on each count, full restitution for veterinary and sanctuary care, and permanent bans on animal ownership or handling for those allegedly responsible for starving two pigs who huddled, shook, and drank urine for survival.

Reports describe two large pigs found gaunt, shivering, and near collapse after escaping a pen. A veterinarian reportedly observed extreme thinness and exhaustion, with one animal close to death. Both pigs allegedly huddled silently rather than eat, as if warmth and dry bedding finally outranked hunger after prolonged deprivation.

Further accounts state the pigs weighed roughly 350 pounds each when examined, whereas healthy farm‑breed pigs of similar age commonly reach far higher weights with adequate feed. Observers reportedly noted a bare, wind‑exposed pen, scant feed on hand, and behavior suggesting chronic thirst. Caregivers later reported that the pigs drank each other’s urine, behavior linked with lack of reliable clean water.

The animals now recover at a sanctuary, where separate feeding, steady water, and quiet shelter brought weight gain and calmer behavior. Accountability remains essential. Strong prosecution, meaningful penalties, and permanent bans on animal contact would deter future neglect. A court should also order restitution covering transport, diagnostics, ongoing treatment, and lifetime sanctuary support.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney Seaman,

Accounts from Williamstown describe two pigs found emaciated, shaking, and too drained even for food. A veterinarian reportedly judged one animal perilously close to death. Caregivers later recounted that the pigs drank each other’s urine, behavior tied with chronic thirst and unreliable access to clean water.

Such alleged deprivation warrants a firm prosecutorial response. We respectfully urge your office to file and pursue every charge supported by evidence, seek maximum sentences on each count, and request consecutive terms where authorized. Please ask the court for permanent prohibitions on owning, keeping, breeding, or working with animals, along with mandated counseling or education aimed at preventing repeat harm.

Restitution should cover veterinary exams, medications, specialized nutrition, transport, sanctuary housing, and long‑term behavioral care. Visible, consistent accountability will protect remaining animals in this case and signal that starvation, cold exposure, and water denial will not be tolerated in Orange County.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
