Don’t Endanger Consumers with Toxic Skin Care Products

Target: Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of the L’Oreal Group

Goal: Prevent toxic cosmetics ingredients from posing health risk to consumers.

The health impacts of forever chemicals, or PFAS, are widely documented. Cancer, liver and thyroid issues, reproductive impact, and other wellness risks have been linked to the notoriously hard-to-break- down substances. While the dangers posed from human exposure to forever chemicals via drinking water and food are well-known, a recent investigation shed light on another potential area of concern for consumers: skin absorption.

The research study demonstrated that human skin absorbed as much as 30 to 60 percent of forever chemicals following exposure. These chemicals, due to their heat and water-resistant properties, are used in a variety of consumer products applied to the skin, including cosmetics and personal care items. The chemicals with some of the highest absorption levels are becoming more commonplace in manufacturing of these products.

Sign the petition below to urge one major cosmetics manufacturer to take the toxicity out of its popular products.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Hieronimus,

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is taking a much stronger look at toxic PFAS implicated in a broad range of long-term health ailments. A recent USDA evaluation focused on PFAS presence in cosmetics products. The results were not encouraging.

And with new data demonstrating that PFAS absorption through skin in a very real concern, L’Oreal – as an industry leader – must do its part to mitigate and eliminate this threat to its consumers. The popular anti-aging Revitalift line alone reportedly contains forever chemical acetyl trifluoromethylphenyl valylglycine. The company has thus far avoided comment on this danger.

Please rectify this critical oversight by making a decisive pledge to divest from forever chemicals and their potential lifelong negative impact on consumers.

Sincerely,

  1. Big companies like L’Oreal know toxins! They use science to develop their products. Any known toxin found to injure or kill customers needs to be addressed promptly. No beauty product is worth dying for! The cases of baby powder were left for years. I feel that is wrong. Isn’t that why we have the EPA and other safety agencies? If this is to be addressed, the companies need to be shut down. Johnson and Johnson is a prime example. They should have been shut down due to the damage they caused by not immediately taking baby powder off the market. This folly is done too often in America but should be met with a sharp knife of the law! We must get Round Up off store shelves as well.
