Success: College Loan Burden Lifted for More Students

Target: Miguel Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education

Goal: Support cancellation of student loan debt for tens of thousands of borrowers.

Rising college debt has hurt many Americans and perhaps deterred many more from pursuing a higher education. Supporters of this ForceChange petition called on the Biden Administration to relieve these often crippling financial stressors. The administration has taken another significant step in listening.

The latest announcement indicates a cancellation of over 1.2 billion dollars in student debt for about 153,000 borrowers enrolled in the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan. Qualifying individuals will have their debt relieved if they have been making loan payments for at least a decade and originally borrowed $12,000 or less, although payments above this amount will also be subject to relief. These individuals join other borrowers who have seen their debt relieved in recent years, including disabled individuals and students from now-closed schools. In total, nearly four million borrowers have benefitted from student loan relief.

Sign the petition below to applaud this removal of financial barriers to education.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Cardona,

“Our Administration has now approved loan forgiveness for nearly 3.9 million borrowers, and our historic fight to cancel student debt isn’t over yet.” The SAVE benefits offer a fair relief plan for individuals who have shown a willingness to honor their debts. Thank you for continuing a trend that has brought billions of dollars in relief for student loan borrowers across America.

No individual should be financially punished for a lifetime for wanting a quality education and the economic benefits that come with it. Your commitment to helping students achieve this dream is commendable.

Sincerely,
