Target: Prem Shah, President of CVS Pharmacy
Goal: Support efforts to lower costs of prescription drugs for millions of Americans.
On average, Americans spend over $1,200 every year on prescription drugs. The cost crunch leads to many individuals being unable to take all of their needed medications. This ForceChange petition highlighted the issue and called on leaders to ease the burden on consumers. And increasingly, leaders in the pharmaceutical retail industry are taking action.
Both Express Scripts and CVS Pharmacy have announced major revisions to their pricing models. Now, instead of middlemen between pharmaceutical giants and insurers driving the ultimate price consumers pay, a more transparent and simplified approach will prevail. Prices will now be more closely based on the price initially paid for the pharmaceuticals by companies, plus a fair markup. The new system is expected to make many prescription drugs less expensive for everyday consumers. Walgreens is planning to unveil a similar model.
In addition, CVS is pushing for greater availability of lower-priced generic pharmaceuticals that boast almost identical benefits as brand-name prescriptions. Sign the petition below to thank this influential fixture in the pharmacy sector for taking decisive steps to help consumers.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mr. Shah,
“We are leading with an approach that will shift how our retail pharmacy is compensated by implementing a more transparent and sustainable model that fairly aligns pharmacy reimbursement to the quality services we provide.” CVS CostVantage has the potential to reform and revitalize prescription pharmaceutical pricing. Together with a renewed commitment to biosimilars, this company (under your leadership) is helping fulfill its promise of quality services, transparency, and sustainability.
Thank you for addressing some of the concerns of millions of Americans who rely on CVS and other pharmacy retailers for their security and well-being.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
