Ban Illegal Dog Fighting to Protect Animals From Physical and Emotional Harm

Target: Ms. Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom

Goal: Ensure a thorough investigation into the prevalence of illegal dog fighting and take immediate action to combat this cruel activity.

Disturbing figures released by the RSPCA reveal the extent of illegal dog fighting in the west of England, with 12 reported cases in Dorset since 2019. These figures shed light on an ongoing issue of animal cruelty and highlight the urgent need for action.

Dog fighting has been illegal in the United Kingdom since 1835, yet the prevalence of this barbaric activity persists. The RSPCA’s Special Operations Unit (SOU) chief inspector, Ian Muttitt, reports that in the past four years alone, the RSPCA has uncovered and dealt with 77 incidents of dog fighting in the west of England, underscoring the alarming persistence of this illegal and inhumane practice.

It is deeply concerning that an activity which has been outlawed for almost 200 years continues to thrive, causing immense suffering to animals and undermining the principles of compassion and justice. Dog fighting not only inflicts physical and emotional harm upon the animals involved but also perpetuates a cycle of violence and criminal activity.

It is imperative that immediate action is taken to address this issue. A thorough investigation is required to identify the culprits involved in these illegal dog fighting activities. Law enforcement agencies, animal welfare organizations, and the government must collaborate to uncover the networks behind this illicit trade and prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law. Demand immediate action.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Thérèse Coffey,

The persistence of dog fighting is a blight on our society and a betrayal of our commitment to animal welfare. It is essential that those responsible for inflicting such harm and perpetuating this illegal practice are brought to justice.

We call upon you to strengthen existing legislation and enforcement measures to ensure that those involved in dog fighting face severe penalties. Educational initiatives should also be implemented to raise awareness about the cruelty and illegality of dog fighting, discouraging participation in such activities.

By taking decisive action against dog fighting, the United Kingdom can demonstrate its commitment to upholding the principles of compassion, justice, and animal welfare. We urge you to allocate the necessary resources and collaborate with relevant authorities to eradicate this brutal practice from our communities.

Sincerely,

  1. For a country that prides itself on being civilized this is about as heinous as it gets. Dog fighting doesn’t just kill and maim innocent dogs, it demeans and downgrades the entire community and makes dog fighting seem like a sport, it’s not, the only sport this should offer is the one of locating and jailing the lowlife losers who get involved in this horrific abuse. It’s 2023, get laws on the books now and peruse these horrible criminals.
