Recycle Old, Bleached Books to Reduce Landfill Waste and Toxicity

Target: Michael S. Regan, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Goal: Recycle old books to stop landfills from destroying the environment and wildlife.

Nearly 25% of all landfill waste is a result of paper disposal. Paper products often end up in waterways and forests, harming the wildlife in such environments. Pollution is rapidly worsening, and if something is not done to bring it to a halt, wildlife will continue to suffer. An environmentally-friendly way to reduce the waste within landfills is to recycle old books. Many potentially harmful products are recycled to sustain the environment, just as books should be. Recycling books can reduce humans’ carbon footprint, and better yet, books can be recycled into sustainable materials that may be used in the future.

Recycling books also decreases the negative impact their production has on the environment by 50%. The process of bleaching pages pushes toxins out into the atmosphere, and by them being recycled, the environment is saved from any further harm. Outside of the environmental benefits, this small act can be profitable, and if the books are repurposed to another reader, somebody else has the chance to read a piece of work for a low/free price.

As Earth progressively gets more polluted by the sheer volume of landfills, environmentally harmful products need to be recycled. Sign this petition to promote recycling of books instead of their disposal in landfills.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear EPA Administrator Regan,

Each day, landfills are bringing further destruction to the environment. Paper makes up a quarter of the material within landfills, but the recycling of books can decrease the total tons of paper. Creating books alone is already harmful to Earth’s atmosphere, and recycling books reduces the harm of their production by nearly half.

With waterways being filled to the brim with pollution, often taking the lives of marine and land animals, taking small actions to diminish the improper disposal of materials is vital. Recycling books is such an action that can gradually improve the environment, decrease the amount of paper in landfills and prevent wildlife from being harmed at the hands of paper.

I implore you to endorse the recycling of books in order to save Earth. This is a sustainable way to dispose of harmful material, and it can even benefit those recycling it. Each step taken to improve the environment is progress, and this step is one among many that needs to be made.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
