Grant Sanctuary to Threatened Indian Elephants

Target: Mr. Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India

Goal: Create a wildlife sanctuary for the Indian elephant in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve to protect and preserve the species and their habitat.

The Indian elephant is an iconic species that plays a critical role in maintaining the biodiversity and ecological balance of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in India. However, these majestic creatures are under threat due to habitat destruction, fragmentation, and human-wildlife conflict. The current protected areas are not sufficient to provide the necessary habitat and protection for the Indian elephant, leading to a decline in their population.

The creation of a wildlife sanctuary for the Indian elephant in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is a crucial step in protecting and preserving the species and their habitat. The sanctuary would provide the necessary protection and space for the Indian elephant to thrive, reducing human-wildlife conflict and ensuring the long-term survival of the species. In addition, its creation would also have numerous ecological benefits, such as maintaining forest cover, promoting sustainable tourism, and contributing to climate change mitigation.

Through these proactive measures, we can ensure a brighter and more sustainable future for the Indian elephant. Sign below and demand the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change take immediate action in creating a wildlife sanctuary to not only to benefit the elephant population, but also to promote the conservation of the entire ecosystem and the sustainable development of the region.
