End Poaching That is Killing Endangered Sumatran Orangutan

Target: Mr. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Minister of Environment and Forestry, Republic of Indonesia

Goal: Protect the Sumatran orangutan and its habitat by addressing the issues of deforestation and poaching, and promoting sustainable land use practices in Indonesia.

The Sumatran orangutan is critically endangered, with only an estimated 14,600 individuals left in the wild. Habitat loss and poaching are the major threats to the survival of this iconic species. Deforestation for palm oil plantations, logging, and mining has destroyed much of the orangutan’s natural habitat, while poaching for the pet trade and bushmeat has further depleted their numbers.

To protect the Sumatran orangutan and its habitat, it is essential that immediate action be taken to address the root causes of these threats. This requires a commitment to sustainable land use practices, including the protection and restoration of forests and the development of alternative livelihoods for local communities. Additionally, law enforcement and governance must be strengthened to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trade.

Through sustainable land use practices, law enforcement and governance, and public education and awareness-raising, we can protect the Sumatran orangutan and its habitat. By taking action to protect the Sumatran orangutan and its habitat, we can also protect the rich biodiversity of Indonesia and ensure the long-term wellbeing of its people.

Sign below and demand Mr. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Minister of Environment and Forestry, Republic of Indonesia, take immediate action and support this critical initiative.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Siti Nurbaya Bakar,

I am writing to urge you to take action to protect the Sumatran orangutan and its habitat in Indonesia. To address these issues, we need to promote sustainable land use practices, including the protection and restoration of forests, and the development of alternative livelihoods for local communities. Additionally, we must strengthen law enforcement and governance to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trade.

I understand that some of the poachers are people trying to make a living – but they’re poaching! They are killing innocent animals for money and that is just wrong. Don’t tell me that poaching is the only way to get by, to make a living, in all these countries where poaching is a problem. If that is a person’s plan in life, to kill innocent animals for money, then you’re just lazy and need to be dealt with extremely harshly. And the government should be putting a stop to you and your poaching.

What Uncommom Sensesc Says: My thoughts exactly. Only lazy lowlifes would do this to make money. Get a skill, bastards, I would say and stop being evil. You are going straight to hell. African governments STOP THIS EVIL NOW. PLEASE.

  4. Maria Lavorato says:

Agree with comments above. THERE IS NO NEED FOR POACHING!

Orangutans or any animal does not belong to man! They have free will (like any human) and that should be respected. They also have every right to have a home on this planet.

If Habitat loss and poaching are the root causes, it is time to put in place stringent legal measures to severely punish both or YOU WILL LOSE EVErYTHING!!!!!!

  5. killing the wildlife is NOT the answer. Killing the killers of wildlife ….is.

This is sickening. We must do whatever possible to stop the massacre of these incredible creatures. I don’t want to live in a works they no longer exist in…please…

  8. Shirley Lemieux says:

It is such a shame that no intervention from Indonesian Government exists thus far in protecting such a beautiful species. A destruction that is preventable. I support this Petition in hopes that immediate action is taken to protect these Orangutans.

  9. Poor uneducated people do not understand that they are wiping a unique species out. The government needs to do more to not just stop poaching but get these people into a trade that not only provides them a living but saves the species. Of course, the government is also corrupt and only thinking of money.
And what will they kill when they make the organutans extinct? Do any of these fools ever think of that?
We are a dismal calamitous species.

Poachers are committing a crime. Why are they so easily let off the hook? Personally, I would like to organize a poacher hunt, but that’s just me–or is it?

  17. Jean Sleigh says:

This is all and only because of a Government’s greed and susceptibility to bribery from big corporations. 🙁 No thought to their poor citizens nor wildlife! Just their own pockets…

ENOUGH OF THE POOR PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING….WRONG, WICKED AND CRUEL IS WHAT IT IS!! NO, NO, NO EXCUSES.

I HAVE SEEN MANY POOR PEOPLE ABROAD AND THEY DO NOT TAKE PART IN SUCH VILE KILLING.

    THIS IS A LAME EXCUSE.
