Ban Fireworks in National Parks

Target: David Vela, Acting Director – National Park Service

Goal: Ban the use of fireworks in national parks to protect wildlife from noise pollution and habitat destruction.

Fireworks displays have been a popular way to celebrate holidays and events in national parks. However, the impact of these displays on wildlife and the environment cannot be ignored. The loud noise from fireworks can disrupt the communication and mating patterns of various species of wildlife, causing immense stress and anxiety. This can lead to reduced reproductive success, decreased foraging, and even mortality in some cases. Furthermore, fireworks can result in debris and chemical pollution, which can contaminate soil, air, and water sources in and around the parks.

Moreover, fireworks can also pose a significant fire risk, which can be especially dangerous in areas already prone to wildfires. The sparks and debris from fireworks can ignite dry vegetation and lead to devastating wildfires, destroying habitats and endangering the lives of both humans and animals.

It is the responsibility of the authorities to take action to protect the wildlife and habitats in national parks and wildlife reserves. One such measure could be the complete ban of fireworks displays in these areas. Instead, alternative ways of celebrating events and holidays that do not harm the environment, such as using silent fireworks, could be promoted.

Sign the below petition to urge David Vela, Acting Director of the National Park Service, to take action to ban the use of fireworks in national parks and ensure the protection of our natural resources.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Vela,

I am writing to urge you to take action to ban the use of fireworks in national parks and wildlife reserves. Fireworks displays can cause significant harm to wildlife, including noise pollution that disrupts communication and mating patterns, as well as habitat destruction from debris and chemical pollution.

As the Acting Director of the National Park Service, I urge you to promote alternative ways of celebrating holidays and events that do not harm the environment. This can include using silent fireworks or other forms of entertainment that do not create loud noises and debris.

I urge you to take action to ban the use of fireworks in national parks to protect our natural resources and ensure the preservation of our wildlife and habitats for future generations. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,
