Stop Convicted Animal Abusers From Owning Pets

Target: Phil Murphy, Governor of New Jersey

Goal: Prohibit convicted animal abusers from owning or working with animals.

Several years ago, a dog trainer allegedly stole his neighbors’ dog in order to sell the animal. Tragically, this canine, named Moose, lost his life after he was left in a hot car. Ever since this horrific incident, lawmakers in New Jersey have struggled to pass a new law in honor of Moose. Now, after nearly a decade, decisive action is finally within reach.

Moose’s Law originally gave employers at facilities involving animals greater authority to run background checks for animal cruelty. The proposed law has since expanded to bar anyone with a criminal conviction for cruelty from either working or volunteering at these facilities. In addition, the law would ban ownership of any domestic animals for convicted individuals. As numerous petitions on this site have highlighted, the ability of animal abusers to continue accessing more possible future victims is widespread and deeply disturbing.

This important bill has finally made it through the state Senate. Sign the petition below to urge New Jersey’s governor to make Moose’s Law official at last.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Murphy,

Moose’s Law has done the impossible and united lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. When this bill targeted toward enhanced animal protections made it through the Senate, it did so with a unanimous vote. After years of gridlock and stalling, the legislature was finally able to come together and safeguard at-risk animals.

This legislation will prevent known and convicted animal cruelty offenders from getting near more vulnerable living beings in either a personal or work capacity. Please lend your signature and affirm that in New Jersey, animal welfare does matter.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  2. JoAnne Caravella says:

IT IS TRULY SAD. OUR COUNTRY IS NO DAMN BETTER TOWARDS ANIMALS AND ESPECIALLY,THE CRUELTY TOWARDS THEM THAN HOW A DAMN THIRD WORLD COUNTRY TREATS THEIR ANIMALS. NO ANIMAL ASKS TO COME INTO THIS CRUEL WORLD. SO, IF YOU CANNOT BE A FUCKING DECENT PERSON TOWARDS ANY AND ALL OF THEM, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THEM!!!
COME ON NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR, ALL INVOLVED WITH THIS BILL, GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASSES AND MAKE THIS LAW HAPPEN!!! IT IS NO WONDER THAT MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE LOVING AND RESPECTING ANIMALS THAN A LOT OF F-ING PEOPLE!!!

  3. Michelle Stewart says:

Animal abusers, torturers, killers; people that neglect, abandon, perform beastiality all must be banned for life from owning or going near any animals ever again. There must be a world wide data bank that lists anyone’s name that does these things. Anyone that does these things deserve to be shot dead

  4. Pedophiles are not given access to children, animal abusers should be likewise prohibited from animal “ownership”, it’s ridiculous that sometimes animal abusers are “punished” by making them volunteer at an animal shelter or pound- ludicrous. They’re violent sadists who cannot be “reformed”.

No animal volunteers to die, all killing is abusive. Vegan is the only humane.

  5. Cathy Radies says:

JoAnne Caravella – I agree with you 100% and to the state of New Jersey – get off your god damn useless asses and get this bill into law what the hell is wrong with you people – you can certainly make laws happen when you want to so try making this one a major priority. This is disgusting beyond belief. Just make it happen never mind the excuses!!!

  6. Kim Whitney says:

We must have thought laws that protect animals from these abusers, they must first of all be locked up for longer periods of time and they must never be allowed to own any animals for as long as yhey live. If caught with an animal then it is right back to prison. We must show thrse monsters that animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty will not be tolerate d. We must be the voice of these innocent animals

  7. Michelle taylor says:

Animal abusers globally require instigation of the death penalty and nothing less!

  8. Therese Kutscheid says:

I agree with JoeAnne Caravella completely

  9. Raymond Stevens says:
