Provide Aid in Aftermath of Earthquake That Killed and Injured Thousands

Target: Samantha Power, Administrator of United States Agency for International Development

Goal: Give financial and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after massive and deadly earthquake.

A devastating 6.1-magnitude earthquake has claimed over 1,000 lives in Afghanistan. With untold number of people still trapped in the rubble, the death toll will likely keep rising. The disaster struck a rural region as families still slept, seriously hampering emergency aid efforts.

For a nation already facing so much turmoil after a hasty U.S. military withdrawal and a Taliban takeover, the earthquake will compound suffering for a long time to come.  Current leaders, ill-equipped to deal with the mass-casualty event, are pleading for help. The United Nations recently warned of widespread poverty and starvation if investments were not made in the country’s cratering economy. This latest crisis makes the need even more urgent.

Sign the petition below to urge American leadership to extend more of a helping hand towards a humanitarian catastrophe it helped create.

Dear Administrator Power,

Afghanistan’s people, after falling back under the rule of a dictatorship, are now facing another unimaginable tragedy in the wake of a deadly earthquake that has so far killed over a thousand Afghans. Journalists report of hearing mourning on every street of the devastated rural region this disaster struck. These people already feel largely forsaken by the international community, with America leading the turn-away.

Punitive policies and withdrawal of aid never impact the governments to which these actions are targeted. Instead, they take an exponentially destructive toll on everyday citizens. Please do not abandon Afghanistan again. Pledge aid and support in their time of most desperate need.
