Target: Juliette Feld Grossman, Producer of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
Goal: Support relaunch of famous traveling circus without inclusion of exploitative and abusive animal acts.
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus was often called the Greatest Show on Earth, but its controversial use of animals made it the target of frequent criticism. Animal rights advocates accused the international sensation of overworking, exploiting, and utilizing cruel training methods on the lions, tigers, and elephants that were centerpieces of its show for over a century. Entreaties such as this ForceChange petition have long called for a cruelty-free circus, which initially achieved a victory when the aforementioned circus closed its doors in 2017.
After the organization announced it would resume North American traveling circus shows in 2023, however, questions arose about whether this victory would uphold. The answer is a definitive yes. According to a producer for the upcoming shows, the circus will proceed entirely animal-free. Instead, new performances will focus exclusively on highlighting the talents of humans.
Sign the petition below to thank new leadership for carrying forward a cruelty-free vision of the circus for future generations to enjoy.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Ms. Feld Grossman,
You talked of reimagining the circus and its possibilities when new productions relaunch in 2023. Thank you for recognizing that the dark specter of animal cruelty would only taint the new beginning envisioned for a spectacle that millions of families have enjoyed and can enjoy. High-flying aerialists, dare-devil stunt people, and other talents will tell a thrilling story and inspire the young people who witness their amazing feats.
With a better vision and a commitment to displaying the best of humanity, this circus can truly become the Greatest Show on Earth.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
