Don’t Block Funding to Combat the Climate Crisis

Target: Frank Pallone Jr., Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce

Goal: Ensure that the Office of Environmental Justice receives necessary funding to address climate change.

There are seemingly never-ending reports on the escalating climate crisis and the fate of our world—each one urging us to take immediate action if we want to extend the life of our planet and its inhabitants. With global temperatures rising, extreme weather events occurring at unprecedented rates, and escalating mass extinctions, the government should be doing all it can to promote education and action around climate change. Unfortunately, some politicians are actively working against these efforts, and are, in fact, ushering us into increasingly dire circumstances.

A new House bill has been introduced which aims to prohibit federal spending on any program, activity, or project relating to climate change. This extreme proposal would enact a widespread ban on funding any federal effort towards achieving climate recovery and sustainability by the Office of Environmental Justice. This includes promoting climate change education and action by establishing or continuing projects and related activities. Sponsored by Representative Scott Perry (R-PA), this bill specifically targets Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, aiming to restrict him from funding the administration of the Office of Environmental Justice entirely. Rep. Perry has sponsored additional bills opposing climate activism efforts, attempting to block clean energy efforts and increase reliance on fossil fuels. His support of these bills demonstrates his clear disregard for the climate crisis and the survival of our planet.

If passed by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, this bill would halt our progress towards protecting our environment and ensuring our collective survival and future. Sign below and urge the chairman to oppose this extreme legislative measure.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chairman Pallone Jr.,

With climate change being one of the most pressing current political issues, we are urging you to oppose a recent bill that would severely restrict federal efforts toward environmental recovery and sustainability.

H.R. 7481, sponsored by Representative Scott Perry, aims to prohibit Attorney General Merrick B. Garland from funding the operation of the Office of Environmental Justice, as well as any projects, programs, and activities related to addressing climate change. Passing this bill would be an extreme step in the wrong direction that would bring us ever closer to the end of life as we know it.

The U.S. government should be doing all it can to address the causes and effects of climate change before it is too late. As the chairman of the committee where this bill is currently under review, you have an opportunity to promote environmental recovery and protect our future as a country. Please oppose this extreme bill and do your part to combat the climate crisis.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
