Mike Pompeo: Apologize for Personal Use of Federal Funds

Target: Mike Pompeo, Former Secretary of State

Goal: Apologize for misusing state funds and personnel to complete private errands.

A State Department inspector general report concluded that Mike Pompeo and his family used government employees to take care of their family dog, make restaurant reservations and hair salon appointments, deliver jewelry to their home, prepare their personal Christmas cards, order flowers for friends, pick up others at hotels, and buy supplies for mixed drinks at charity auctions.

Mike Pompeo had dismissed accusations that he or his wife had asked government staff to walk their dog or perform personal tasks, calling the allegations “patently false” and “crazy stuff.” As Pompeo is no longer in office, he is “not subject to the disciplinary or other corrective actions applicable to federal employees,” said the report. Essentially, the Pompeos will never be punished for their actions. Sign this petition to urge Mike Pompeo to apologize for his misuse of government funds and personnel to deter other senior leaders from committing similar violations.

PETITION LETTER:

To Mr. Pompeo,

Government staff are not personal staff. Government funds are not personal funds. Your use and your family’s use of federal staff and funds were violations that went beyond your power as Secretary of State. Inspectors “found no connection” between some of your spending and use of personnel and government needs. It is a breach of trust to use tax-payers dollars to your own personal benefit. You must speak out and apologize for your actions so that others in your senior position will not commit similar violations. I urge you to apologize for your misuse of state funds and personnel.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

    How do you like that?
    And is he returning them?
