Do Not Penalize Wild Animals Following Bobcat Attack

Target: Alan Cutler, Pender County NC Sheriff

Goal: Do not penalize wild animals in the wake of viral bobcat attack.

A North Carolina man rescued his wife from a bobcat attack in the driveway of their home. A viral video shows Happy Wade pulling a bobcat off his wife, Kristi Wade. He threw the bobcat to the ground, chased it, and shot it dead. Tests later revealed that the bobcat was positive for rabies. Kristi Wade told news outlets, “He saved my life. I don’t know where I’d be or what sort of shape I’d be in right now had he not been there.” The couple both suffered bites and scratches and were treated for possible infection.

The local Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming that the bobcat was positive for rabies. It went on to remind residents to keep their domestic pets vaccinated. As this community recovers from the unprecedented attack, urge the local Sheriff to ensure that wild animals are not penalized or targeted in revenge by signing this petition.

PETITION LETTER:

To Sheriff Cutler,

The viral video of a rabid bobcat attacking Happy and Kristi Wade in the driveway of their home has taken the internet by storm. While it is fortunate that the Wades were able to fight off the bobcat and defend themselves against any serious injury, the video itself might result in the public developing an irrational fear of wild animals or, worse, a dislike and hatred for them.

It is understandably important that the public knows about the attack and continues to preemptively defend against rabies by vaccinating their pets. However, the wild animals that are defenseless must also be protected from any possible retaliatory actions. I urge you to make a statement against any penalization or revenge attacks on wild animals.

Sincerely,

  1. All animal abusers internationally, must have the death penalty implemented. Animal have the right to live as much as humans.
