Success: Canadian Rockies Temporarily Safe From Coal Mining Devastation

Target: Jason Kenney, Premier of Alberta

Goal: Thank the government for temporarily halting further coal mining industries, and encourage them to continue these positive efforts.

The Canadian Rockies are a rich source of coal, and many companies and politicians have tried to get their greedy hands on it. Thanks to petitions such as this one, the picturesque mountain range is safe…for the moment.

Alberta has temporarily reinstated their 1976 coal policy, which the Kenney Conservative government removed a few months before. This protects the Rocky Mountains from being devastated by unsound strip coal mining practices. It was a horrible move to rescind this policy, and it is good that it has been reinstated.

However, Kenney and his team are simple reassessing the situation. The policy could be revoked again and next time it could be permanent.

Sign below to show support for the protection of the Rocky Mountains and encourage the government to continue this fortification into the future.

Dear Premier Kenney,

I am glad you have reinstated Alberta’s 1976 policy on coal mining in the Rocky Mountains. While this is only a temporary move, and I am greatly concerned about the future of this magnificent mountain range, this is a step in the right direction.

I want to thank you for listening to public outcry that moved you to halt devastating coal mining operations. I urge you to continue in this environmentally sound reasoning, to permanently reinstate the coal mining policy, and protect one of the greatest mountain ranges in the world.
