Success: General Motors Pledges All-Electric Vehicles Fleet

Target: Mary Barra, Chairman and CEO of General Motors

Goal: Support replacement of heavily polluting gasoline-powered vehicles with clean electric fleets.

Curbing the transportation pollution believed responsible for up to one-half of global warming-fueled carbon emissions will be absolutely key in the fight against climate change. This ForceChange petition  and its supporters advocated for a promising tool in the battle: electric vehicle technology. President Biden embraced this commitment to clean energy by pledging to upgrade the whole 645,000-vehicle fleet of federally owned automobiles to American-made electric vehicles. One of the country’s leading auto manufacturers is also listening and unveiling its own ambitious plan for reform.

General Motors (GM), as part of a revised mission statement, says that “we need millions of EVs (electric vehicles) on the road to make a meaningful impact toward building a zero-emissions future.” GM is dedicated to building 30 new EV models within the next five years. More crucial still, the company has taken a bold step by setting a goal to eliminate gas-guzzling vehicles and internal combustion engines from its manufacturing process by 2035. The CEO of GM elaborated with the following forceful statement: “climate change is real, and we want to be part of the solution by putting everyone in an electric vehicle.”

Sign the petition below to encourage this important step in ending car pollution and its devastating environmental effects.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Barra,

Thank you for your multi-billion- dollar commitment to electric vehicles and clean technology. Better still, thank you for acknowledging that climate change is an urgent problem that needs innovative solutions immediately. As a main driver of transportation carbon emissions, the auto industry has a hugely important role to play in finding and implementing these solutions.

Please stay steadfast in this commitment and in being a leader for reimagined industrial change.

Sincerely,
