Success: Eating of Dog and Cat Meat Banned

Target: Wang Weizhong, Party Committee Secretary of Shenzhen, China

Goal: Praise the ban on the consumption of dog and cat meat.

The consumption of dogs and cats has officially been banned in Shenzhen, China. This is a victory for animal rights activists across the world and those who signed this ForceChange petition. Thank those who made this ban possible.

“Dogs and cats as pets have established a much closer relationship with humans than all other animals and banning the consumption of dogs and cats and other pets is a common practice in developed countries and in Hong Kong and Taiwan,” stated the Shenzhen government. This ban, titled “Shenzhen Special Economic Region Regulation on a Comprehensive Ban on the Consumption of Wild Animals,” came in response to reports that the coronavirus outbreak rooted from the ingestion of wildlife meat in Wuhan, China. It will apply to all of Shenzhen’s restaurants, shops, and markets. Though the outbreak was not specifically linked to dogs and cats, Shenzhen took the ban on wildlife meat a step further to include these beloved animals and instill protections that will end their suffering.

This ban is a bold start and it could save millions of innocent animals from a horrible fate. Sign below and thank those responsible for this animal rights victory.

Dear Mr. Wang,

Dogs and cats are especially unique in their ability to form close bonds with humans. Ingesting their meat has long been denounced and animal rights activists have fought for years to end this cruel practice. Your bold initiative to ban the ingestion of dog and cat meat in Shenzhen will not only save millions of innocent lives, but it will also set an example for other Chinese cities that still support this practice.

Thank you for standing up for animal rights and protecting China’s dogs and cats.

Consumption of dogs & cats needs to stop lest we keep letting this dark chapter of history repeat itself until the entire population is wiped out!

Years and years of endless dedication by people who care is actually coming
to a successful end … praying the authorities will enforce this policy. All the
other countries where domestic pets are consumed are next project.
