Success: Narwhal Tusk Salesman Convicted and Punished

Target: Mike Feuer, City Attorney for Los Angeles, California

Goal: Praise prosecution of the antique dealer who sold endangered narwhal ivory.

An antique dealer has been charged with and convicted of selling the tusks of endangered narwhals. This conviction makes a strong statement to poachers and sellers that this endangered species will not continue to provide them profit. Praise the Los Angeles city attorney for taking this massive step in protecting the narwhal.

The city attorney prosecuted Anthony James Buccola, owner of Antonio’s Bella Casa, after the antique dealer attempted to sell narwhal ivory to an undercover warden from California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife. The sale of narwhal ivory is illegal due to the animal’s endangered status. There are only about 50,000 narwhals left in the Arctic waters off Canada, Greenland and Russia. Poachers hunt narwhals in an attempt to make profit from their ivory tusks and meat.

Buccola was sentenced to 36 months of probation, and he must serve 200 hours of community service or 20 days in jail. He and his business were fined $20,507 each, and he must forfeit the narwhal tusks. Sign below to thank the city attorney for his dedication to saving this endangered species.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear City Attorney Feuer,

An antique dealer has been convicted and sentenced after he attempted to sell narwhal tusks. This sends a strong message that the slaughter of this endangered species will no longer bring profit. Praise the city attorney for taking a stance against illegal poaching.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife conducted an undercover operation at Antonio’s Bella Casa, a Los Angeles antique store, after the owner appeared to be selling narwhal ivory. The operation led to the prosecution and conviction of Anthony James Buccola, the store’s owner. Buccola was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 200 hours of community service or 20 days in jail. He and his business were fined $20,507 each, and the narwhal tusks will be confiscated.

Your hard work in prosecuting this case has shown poachers that they will not profit from killing the narwhal and sellers that they will be punished. Thank you for your dedication and service.

Sincerely,

  1. Thank you for punishing that rotten SOB!
However, in my view not enough jail. He should have gotten 20 years! He should be forced to register wherever he moves, once a bastard, always a bastard.
All future business activities must be monitored until he is too old or dead. Don’t trust him!

  2. Some welcome good news!

  4. I just wish we could also get this ban on other endangered animals such as lions, polar bears and giraffes.

  5. That punishment is a joke. He, nor his associates, will learn anything. You basically told them to go sit in the corner on time out. They will do this shit again. Just hang the scumbags and be done with it.
