Success: Indonesia to Ban Cruel Cat and Dog Meat Trade

Target: Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia

Goal: Thank the government of Indonesia for agreeing to enact a nationwide ban on slaughtering cats and dogs for human consumption.

Millions of animals in Indonesia may be spared a cruel death thanks to a newly proposed ban that would put an end to the cat and dog meat trade. Thanks to the efforts of activists and the online community, as seen by this ForceChange petition, government officials will finally shut down this cruel and barbaric industry once and for all.

After many years of complaints from animal lovers worldwide apparently falling on deaf ears, the Indonesian government has finally recognized that the human consumption of dogs and cats causes unnecessary animal suffering while also posing a potential public health risk. Once the ban is enacted, a safeguard will at last be put in place for the millions of dogs and cats across the country who have been subject to theft and slaughter for far too long.

With this historic move, Indonesia will at last join several other Asian locales, including Hong Kong and the Philippines, in banning this barbaric practice. Sign this petition to thank the president of Indonesia for his government’s decision to end the ongoing torture of innocent animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Widodo,

The world is breathing a sigh of relief to learn that Indonesia will finally be putting an end to the dog and cat meat industry that has subjected millions of innocent animals to appalling cruelty and mistreatment. This unregulated industry has resulted in the widespread theft of pets from people’s yards and has also exposed thousands of people to potentially deadly illnesses, including rabies. Both animals and people will benefit from this humane proposal, and we wish to thank you for at last recognizing that cats and dogs should not be slaughtered simply to satisfy consumer demand.

Dogs and cats are sentient beings who deserve far better treatment than they have received at these crowded and disease-ridden markets. By shutting down this unnecessary industry, you will be making Indonesia a safer and more humane place for everyone to enjoy. That is why we, the undersigned, wish to show our support and hope that this ban will set a precedent for more legislation aimed at improving animal welfare within your nation.

Sincerely,

  1. Fantastic news. Such a shame the UK has decided not to ban the consumption of dog meat.

  2. I will believe its when I see evidence of such. Then there is the feral humans who operate under the radar.

  3. I live in uk and do not know any one that eats dog meat , this is a new one on me . Could it be the foreigners coming over here eating it i just never heard of it

  4. I DON’T TRUST OR BELIEVE THEM.

    Signed & Shared❗️😠

  6. I hope this is correct – if it is good, but we must all be vigilant

  7. So far so good. However, no matter how honorable the intentions of President Widodo, changing the mentality of the masses is another story. When people are calloused at heart, how can they change overnight.
It will be an uphill battle, and we cannot, perhaps never, assume that dog-eaters are now compassionate & understanding.
Vigilance must be at all times!
