Target: Peter Frank, Public Prosecutor General of the Federal Court of Justice of Germany
Goal: Support German prosecutors’ raids of Audi and Volkswagen sites to identify those responsible for cheated emissions tests.
Following a scandal in which millions of Volkswagen and Audi vehicles were manipulating emissions tests and releasing up to 40 times the federal standard of dangerous chemicals and toxins, German police investigated nine VW locations. Armed with search warrants, officers sought to “clarify which people were involved in applying the [manipulation] technology and in providing false information to third parties.” Public outrage and demands for accountability, like this petition at ForceChange, have successfully resulted in the recall of the vehicles, a settlement paid by Volkswagen, and now the determination of who is responsible.
Cheating on the carbon emissions tests was a violation of the Clean Air Act and a threat to public health. Sign below to support the steps German law enforcement is taking to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Dear Prosecutor General Frank,
The steps German prosecutors are taking to identify who was involved in the installation of devices that allowed tens of thousands of VW vehicles to cheat on emissions tests are a necessary and responsible course of action. The extra emissions were an extreme danger to the environment and to public health, and those responsible must be punished.
The raids on nine Audi factories and locations, including VW headquarters, are a good beginning toward addressing the issue in full. I applaud the decision to carry out an emissions probe to determine responsibility and ensure accountability.
